He said, such orientation programmes also afford MMDCEs with the opportunity to gain the right understanding about local governance and offer them the necessary guidance to operate within the laws of the land.

“As leaders who are expected to support and champion development, promote security, peace and unity at the local level, orientation programmes provide opportunity to gain the right insight into local governance and provide the necessary guidance to operate within the set laws and regulations of our nation”.

The Minster made this known he represented all the ten regional ministers at a four-day orientation programme for the one hundred and ninety-nine (199) confirmed MMDCEs across the country at the Local Government Institute in Accra.

According to Dr. Letsa, it was government’s desire to ensure a proper management of the country’s rich resources, especially at the local government level to ensure that the ultimate prosperity and better standards of living for the people is attained.

He therefore tasked them, (MMDCEs) to give their all to help press home the needs of the people even as they have been given the nod by their respective assemblies to head government businesses.

The minister, concluded by calling for a collective responsivity by all stakeholders to join hands with government to ensure total development to the nation. This, he said will harmonize and harness all varied talents, potentials and resources that abound in the nation to bring about the desired and expected results.

“The sustainable development of the nation is a collective responsibility of all of us- the politician and other public official, the youth, women, civil society organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) Professional Associations, Religious Organizations and above all quality, dedication, committed and selfless leadership” he added.
