Ashaiman Marks 38th National Farmers' Day

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ashaiman, Albert Boakye Okyere, has reiterated the government's quest in investing heavily and rolling out various programmes to ensure that Agriculture remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy.

He said the government will continue to create an enabling environment and put in place necessary interventions for the rapid growth of the sector.

The MCE was speaking at the 38th National Farmers' Day Celebration at Mandela Park. This year’s celebration was under the theme "Accelerating Agriculture Development through Value Addition".


He further said government is still scaling up the various flagship programmes like One-District-One- Factory, planting for food and jobs, planting for Export and Rural Development and Rearing food and jobs towards the attainment of these goals.

He encouraged farmers to take advantage of all the interventions in place in the Agric Sector to produce more in order to supply the requirements of processing industries in the country.

The Municipal Director of Agric, Cynthia Opoku Agyemang also said the department, after recognizing the important roles women play in agriculture value chain, will ensures that they are empowered through training workshops, marketing and value addition.


In all, 10 farmers were received awards.

32-year old Abubakar Abdul Wahab was adjudged the Municipal Best Farmer of the year. He took home a tricycle, cutlasses, knapsack sprayer, wellington boots, Television, half piece wax prints, weedicides and a certificate.

The other award winners include, Albert Boakye Okyere, the Municipal Chief Executive being the best back yard farmer.
