KEEA holds Meet the Press series

The Komenda -Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipal Assembly held a Town Hall Meeting/Meet the Press on October 1, 2019 to recount and deliberate on the impact of the Akufo Addo government with respect to developmental programmes, policies and projects which has been implemented in the KEEA municipality from 2017 to date.

Delivering the welcome address Hon Aspect Ackon indicated that it is the objective of every local government body to improve the allocation of public resources, quality service provision and promote economic development and in doing so it requires the participation of citizens and stakeholders in the decision-making process to ensure the development of the municipality.

In that regard, Hon Ackon pointed out the need for the media, stakeholders and the citizenry to engage the Assembly on such developmental issues so that they can be well-informed with the activities in the assembly and also contribute to improve the welfare of the people in the municipality.

He reiterated Akufo Addo’s government and the assembly’s unflinching support towards development in the municipality.

In a keynote address by the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Kwamena Duncan, he indicated that it is the goal of His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo to bring his governance closer to the people of Ghana by reaching out to them at their door steps and letting them know about his stewardship on the affairs of the country.

The Minister, however, emphasized the need for every district/ municipality/Metropolitan Assembly in the country to make known its progress in terms of developments by engaging everyone so as to promote participation in decision making and contribute to the governance of the Akufo Addo Government. He added that, due to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) conditionalities the Public Sector experienced a total ban during the previous government’s tenure of office.

Hon Kwamena Duncan said a lot more teachers and nurses have been recruited under the current government. He pointed out that, over 60,000 teachers have been recruited at the basic school level and over 54,000 nurses and other health professionals have also been recruited.

He said some social intervention programs introduced by the government such as the Free Senior High Education have benefitted a lot of Ghanaians. He spoke also on the ongoing registration of the Ghana card across the country and encouraged all to register when the time is due.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive of Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality, Nana Appiah Korang made a comprehensive presentation on the developmental projects, programmes and policies which has been implemented in the Municipality from 2017 to 2019.

There was an open forum which gave opportunity for the media and citizens as well as stakeholders to ask questions.
