A 71-Year Old Widow Adjudged Asante Juaben Municipal Best Farmer

She was honoured with a Tricycle popularly known and called Aboboyaa, Knapsack spraying machine, willington boots, cutlasses and certificate at the event held under the theme: ” Planting for Food and Jobs: Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana”.
Nana Gyamfiwaah owns 15 acres of cassava, 40 acres of cocoa farm, 20 acres of coconut farm, 10 acres of orange farm, 59 pigs and 100 goats.
She also has 10 acres of plantain, 2 acres of maize and 10 acres of rice farm in a different communities within the Juaben Municipality.
The first runner up, a 58-year old man, Mr Agyeman Duah from Juaben who is into cassava,maize, potatoes,cowpea, coconut, yam and birds, was awarded with certificate, wheelbarrow, two Knapsack spraying machines, willington boots, cutlasses and some bags of agrochemical.
The rest of the farmers present were also honoured and took home with other prizes.
In all twenty (20) farmers including, women and a disabled person were awarded.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Juaben Municipal Assembly during his keynote address underscored the importance of the new pension regime for farmers and the need to take advantage of the scheme to better their lot.
He reiterated that, the 2022 budget has made adequate provision to consolidate the food systems in Ghana through the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.
The MCE pleaded with those who have made their mind not to go for the COVID-19 vaccine to rescind their decision and go for the jabs without which, he said they cannot access public places this yuletide.
He urged the gathering to continue to observe the COVID-19 protocols by ensuring regular washing of hands with soap under running water, the use of hand sanitisers, wearing of nose mask and social distancing to curtail the spread of the virus.
On her part, Nana Abena Gyamfiwaah was thankful to the government for the flagship programmes in Agriculture and also the Municipal Agric Extension Officers for their immense support to wins the Juaben Municipal Best Farmer for 2021 Farmers Day.
She appealed to the youth to take advantage of the various government policies and interventions to engage themselves into farming, since farming activities is now a major business in Ghana
