Wa West to get needed attention- Minister

Mr Sulemana Alhassan, the Upper West Regional Minister, has promised to give special attention to the development of the Wa West District following the district's abysmal performance in the District League Table (DLT) rankings.

He said he was unhappy that the district chalked last in both the regional and national rankings of the DLT despite its resource potential.

Mr Alhassan made the promise when he paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Wechiau Traditional Area, Naa Imoro Nandon Goma and some divisional chiefs during the first day of his familiarization tour of the region.

He expressed concern about poor education results in the region and saying as an educationist he was familiar with the challenges of the sector and would work towards addressing them to restore the region's lost glory in the sector.

The Regional Minister said government would also work towards promoting the yam industry in the district to enable it export the product.

Mr Alhassan pledged to consult the chiefs and other traditional rulers on critical development issues to ensure fair and equitable distribution of resources in the society.

On peace, the Regional Minister, said he would continue to build on the gains made by his predecessors to ensure that the region continues to enjoy the prevailing peace of the ares.

Earlier, Mr Alhassan called on Naa Sohimwininye Danaa Gori II, Paramount Chief of Dorimon Traditional Area and conveyed the President's message to him that he had not forgotten of the chief's request during the campaign period and that he would surely fulfill it.

The Regional Minister also addressed staff of the Wa West District Assembly and urged them to work with greater commitment to ensure high delivery of services so that together they would change the position of the district on the DLT in the next rankings.
