Kwabre East awards farmers

Forty farmers in Kwabre East District, have been honoured for outstanding contribution to the development of the areas agriculture.

They were presented with refrigerators, knapsack spraying machines, cartons of agro-chemicals, wax print, machetes, assorted soap, watering cans and wellington boots at the 30th farmer’s day celebration held at Ntonso in Ashanti Region.

 

Mr Kofi Kwabia of Kasaam was adjudged the overall best farmer, and received 40-inch flat screen television, agro-chemicals, knapsack sprayer, wax print, wellington boots and machetes.

 

This years event was on the theme:Eat what you grow. 

 

Mr Kwabia has 8.5 acres of cocoa, nine acres of oil-palm plantation, seven-acres of citrus, a two-acre each of plantain, maize and cassava.

 

He also operates a livestock farm.

 

The Member of Parliament, Mr Kofi Frimpong called on the government to supply farmers with farming inputs at subsidized rates.

 

He also underlined the need for the nation to focus efforts on rehabilitating feeder roads to make it easier to transport farm produce to marketing centres.

 

Mr Samuel Kwadzo Semakor, District Director of Agriculture, asked Ghanaians to develop taste for locally grown food.
