He said SSNIT will continue to invest right, as the guidelines are clear on the kind of investments they should be pursuing currently.

"Our investments would be done right; we are actually trying to scale down on our investments in real estate and property and do much more in fixed income securities that are more easily predictable and are more certain. And that is what is informing our current drive including our fixed income security project".

He affirmed that with the right investments, "we will get the appropriate returns that we seek to grow how much we pay our pensioners".
In line with this, Mr Biney also underscored the need to scale up and bring in new members indicating that new members are needed to support those who have moved to the pension category.

"Currently, SSNIT pays pension to 257,000 of their members, and the active members who contribute are above 2.1 million members. We are looking at the situation where we quickly scale up on those numbers; and that's what informed our strategy to have co-locations with the banks because that way we are much closer to where people are and they easily have their contributions done", he added.
EFFORTS TO RECOVER LOANS

On efforts to recover loans, the Director General assured that every effort would be made to recover all outstanding loans and outstanding amounts to drive value in their investments as required by law.

"Our outstanding loans to all those related entities are slightly in excess of a billion Ghana cedis, and $5.8 million USD; and we're pretty confident that we will recover significant portions of these investments. I call them investments because all these entities are companies that we are a majority shareholder, most of which we actually hold 100 percent" he emphasized.
