She said the Ga East Municipality is a victim of flood due to high volume of water running down from the Akuapem South Mountains to the Municipality.
As such the Ga East Municipality is a major stake holder in the GARID) project which basically involves the opening and dredging of gutters to allow free flow of water through them.
To this end, the Assembly has carried out dredging works at Abokobi-Boi junction to the Abokobi Market, Agbogba Fitting Shop, Agbogba Happy Home, Dome Save More, and Dome Konka.
The depth of the exercise, she noted received commendation from a Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Korsah, when he inspected these sites.
The MCE who was addressing the town hall meeting reminded residents that directly tied to the efforts at solving the flooding situation is the need for people to take their sanitation issues seriously and avoid the habit of littering and choking gutters with debris.
“I wish to remind all and sundry that the Operation Clean Your Frontage campaign is still in force and we entreat you to ensure your surroundings are kept clean at all times. We are currently carrying out a special taskforce exercise to ensure compliance and prosecute offenders.
“We are also strictly enforcing our Bye-Laws and to this effect, several educational campaigns are being undertaken, including sharing the softcopy on various platforms, including the Ga East Residents’ Associations WhatsApp platform. We encourage all of us to support in educating the residents to ensure that together we help to keep our environment clean and stay safe from the ramifications of poor sanitation practices.”
Meanwhile, the Assembly has continued, completed and handed over for use, two (2) of the three (3) modern sanitary facilities at Old Ashongman, Boi and Taifa Burkina Market.
