Alhaji Saaka Dramani, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) who presented the items on behalf of the Assembly, said the allocation of the fund to PWDs was to cushion them against economic hardship as part of inclusive governance.
Mr. Dramani added that the assembly together with officers of the social welfare department before the release of funds held meetings with the physically challenged persons and were given the opportunity individually to indicate which economic activity they would want to undertake with the money.
"We do this because physically challenged persons have diverse interests, some urgently need the assistance to enable them to seek medical healthcare, buy clutches also others too have to meet educational demands," he added.
He therefore, admonished the beneficiaries to make effective use of the money to improve their living conditions, adding that a monitoring team would be deployed to check on the beneficiaries and how they were doing.
The MCD entreated the beneficiaries to invest the money into productive ventures to help uplift their standards of living and welfare in the society.
Chairman of the Physically Challenged Persons thanked the Assembly, Social Welfare Department for the support and promised the money would be used for its intended purpose.
