The purpose of the visit was to explore areas of mutual collaboration between the two institutions.

Notably, discussions centered on forming a 50-member Prison Gang to support sanitation activities and assist in the impounding of stray animals across the city.

The Mayor assured that all logistics required to operationalize the initiative would be provided by KMA.

The team was warmly received by Deputy Director of Prisons, Ing. James B. Mwinyelle, and his management team. He outlined the six prison commands under his supervision: Manhyia, Amanfrom, Obuasi, Ejura Kumasi Female, and the Kumasi Central Prison.

DDP Mwinyelle also highlighted the severe overcrowding at the Kumasi Central Prison, which was originally built to house 500 inmates but now accommodates over 2,458. He appealed to the government for increased support, especially in terms of feeding grants, which he described as woefully inadequate.

He was however quick to add that the Minister of Interior has pledged to take a look at their request as soon as possible.

The mayor and his delegation were taken on a tour of the facility to observe the impressive vocational works being carried out by inmates, including shoemaking, batik tie-and-dye,  carpentry, beads making, and tailoring.
