S TONGU:DCE denies knowledge of illegal land sale of SOGASCO
|Mr. Daniel K. Amelorku|| |
District Chief Executive for the South Tongu District in the Volta Region, Daniel K. Amelorku has described as premature allegations that accuse the Town and Country Planning department of the South Tongu District Assembly of conniving with politicians in selling large portions of land belonging to the Sogakope Senior High Secondary School (SOGASCO).
Reacting to the publications carried by the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Amelorku said he has no proof of the allegation made by the old student association in a release signed by Mr. Franklin Agbabator, President of SOGASCO Old Students Association in Accra on Thursday.
The DCE said it is very difficult at the moment to locate the exact boundaries of the school’s land which is over 300 acres. Accordingly, the District Assembly has petitioned the Land Commission over the matter, and after initial work, the commission presented an interim report which indicated that 38 acres of the land belonging to the school has been encroached on while the school has already developed 68 acres.
Mr. Amelorku said the assembly is awaiting the final report from the Land Commission and possible advice as to where to draw the boundary. “We will learn from the land Commission what they intend to do with the encroachers, either to allow them stay or otherwise”.
He called on the headmaster of the school to use innovative ways to deal with the encroachers to avoid confrontation until a final determination from the Land Commission.
