POLITICS : EC to inspect party offices
 | | | Chairman of the EC, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan | |
The Electoral Commission of Ghana will soon carry out an inspection exercise at political party offices in the country.
According to the commission, political parties are required by law to have some basic infrastructural facilities at their offices.
It is also mandatory for political parties to be present in at least two thirds of the districts in the country.
Head of Public Affairs unit of the Electoral Commission, Christian Owusu Parry told Citi News the commission would be looking for signs that the parties were present in those areas.
“We want to see the physical presence of the office and then we look at the staff at the office.
"We insist that at all times there must be somebody in the office who is running the place so that if we have communication that we need to deal with the party, there would be somebody there to contact.
"So the office should always be opened for business.
“We also look at the kind of furniture that they have in the office, whether they have other forms of office equipment like computer or typewriter etc because it gives an indication as to how the party operates generally in the country”.
