Tema -

Led by its Executive Director, Madam Esther Vanderpuge, the four-hour exercise, which started from the central City of Tema ended at the heavy industrial area where most of the plastic wastes are scattered.
She said the wastes are treated at a Treatment Centre and later sent to the "L and G" Plastic Company, a Korean Company at Tema which recycles them for the production of plastic materials such as buckets and washing bowls among others.

Madam Vanderpuge noted that Tema, being the industrial hub and the gateway to the sub-region needed to be kept clean always hence the involvement of the non-profit NGO in the cleaning exercise which takes the form of collection of plastic waste that have littered all over, creating an eyesore not to both residents and visitors.

According to her, the practical exercise is being followed up to the schools to educate the children on the need to observe personal and environmental cleanliness and also encourage them to form fun clubs on plastic waste collection.

The Executive Director entreated the public to be friendly to the environment by avoiding indiscriminate littering and rather make use of the dustbins provided by the Tema Municipal Assembly at vantage points in the city.

To sustain the exercise that started two and half years ago, the Madam Vanderpuge appealed to corporate bodies and philanthropists for material and financial support to cater for the youth engaged in the exercise as a morale booster.

Van-Agar Services Foundation Plastic Waste Pal, an NGO on the environment, based in Tema, has mobilized about 1,000 youth to collect plastic waste indiscriminately littered in the city aimed at riding it of filth.
