A GH¢134,432 modern classroom block for the Kpetoe Roman Catholic (RC) Primary School in the Adaklu-Anyigbe District has been completed and handed over to the school.
The six-unit classroom block, initiated by the Ho Diocese Development Office, and funded by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Ho Diocese Assistant Development Cooperation based in America is one of many interventions by the church in the district to improve education and social life of the people.
It also has a library, computer laboratory; staff common room, headteacher’s office, a store, a multi-purpose hall, toilets and bathrooms.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony at Kpetoe, the Bishop of the Ho
Diocese-of the Catholic Church, His Lordship Bishop Francis Kofi Lodonu, commended the NGO for the support, and said the church had taken a key interest in the matters of education over the years, because it was the engine of growth of every nation.
His Lordship pointed out that the community should be grateful to God who inspired members of the Ho Diocese Assistant Development Cooperation, which had no link with the Kpetoe community, but due to the efforts of the Catholic Church to provide a conducive environment for children at the basic school in the town, saw the immense contribution of the members, leading to the completion of the project.
Bishop Lodonu advised the pupils and teachers who were the direct
benefactors of the project, to cultivate the culture of maintenance in order to prolong the life span of the facility, stressing that any attempt to carelessly handle the facility, would yield undesirable results to the disadvantage of the community.
The Minister-designate for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Juliana
Azumah Mensah, who was overwhelmed by the magnificent edifice, noted that it was clear that churches were now paying equal attention to both the spiritual and the physical needs of the people, which she described as relevant to the development of the Christian religion in the country.
She remarked that it was important for Christians, particularly the Catholic Church, to identify the needs of people they want to convert to accept their beliefs and practices, which would help the people to accept such practices, because the Church had demonstrated its preparedness to help the people, which would make them to embrace their teachings.
Mrs. Azumah Mensah said as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho
West, she was moved by the activities of the Catholic Church, and
announced that she would single-handedly build a modern kindergarten for the Roman Catholic Basic Schools, noting that the current structure was an eyesore.
She urged the pupils to take advantage of the facility, and learn hard to justify the investment the Church, their parents, and the government were making in them, adding that the country needed a high level human resource base, which would be capable of tackling its development needs
Mrs. Mensah said children, being the future leaders of the nation, should learn hard, be humble to their teachers and parents to enable them to impart knowledge to them, as well as to give them the necessary direction that would prepare them adequately to face the challenges ahead.
The Adaklu-Anyigbe District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Michael Adzaho, also expressed the asembly’s gratitude to the Catholic Church for complementing government’s efforts at ensuring quality education for all.
