Kassena Nankana West district with its capital Paga forms part of the new districts and municipalities created last year by the President, J.A Kufuor were inaugurated at their various locations simultanously on the 29th of February 2008.
The President by an Executive Instrument (E.I) created 27 new Districts, 4 Municipalities, Upgraded 26 existing Districts and 2 existing Municipalities.
All the inaugurated and confirmed MMDAs established are operational with immediate effect hence bringing the total number of MMDAs to 169.
These new creation arose as a result of the large size of some of the then 138 MMDAs which was not one way or the other allowing the government to fully implement its policies of local governance to the benefit of the entire citizenary.

The District Chief Executive for the Kassena Nankana East District Assembly, Thomas Dalu Addah has emphasized that most roads in the district needs to be reconstructed to boost transportation in the area.
The Kassena Nankana West District Assembly is seriously engaging the Chiefs and People of the area in talks to solicit their consent on a partnership agreement in the management of some major tourist sites in the district.
The Kassena Nankana West District Assembly has constructed a state-of- the- art Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) centre for the people of Paga and its surrounding environs.
The First Lady, Ernestina Naadu Mills on a visit to the Crocodile pond at Paga in the Kassena Nankana East District, has hinted that the site would soon be renovated to attract more revenue for the area.
