Akyemansa district with its capital Ofoase forms part of the new districts and municipalities created last year by the President, J.A Kufuor were inaugurated at their various locations simultanously on the 29th of February 2008.
The President by an Executive Instrument (E.I) created 27 new Districts, 4 Municipalities, Upgraded 26 existing Districts and 2 existing Municipalities.
All the inaugurated and confirmed MMDAs established are operational with immediate effect hence bringing the total number of MMDAs to 169.
These new creation arose as a result of the large size of some of the then 138 MMDAs which was not one way or the other allowing the government to fully implement its policies of local governance to the benefit of the entire citizenary.

Districts Assemblies have taken cue from results of last Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE and are implementing a number of interventions to improve educational standards in their respective districts.
The Akyemansa District Chief Executive, Tom Budu is calling on the three contractors assigned by government to construct the 23 kilometer Ayirebi through Ofoase to Chia road to as a matter of urgency start construction to ease the transportation problem of residents in the area.
Potable Water delivery is expected to improve significantly in the Ofoase and surrounding towns in the Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region early next year following progress made in the construction of small Town Water System in Ofoase.
