The Agona West Municipal can be found in the eastern portion of the Central Region. It has a total land area of 540-sq. km. and a population of 160,000. The municipality is divided into eleven zones. It lies within latitudes 5 30’ and 5 50N and longitudes 0 3.5’ and 0 55W. The area is bounded to the East and West by /Effutu Municipal and Asikum/Odoben/Brakwa Districts respectively. The municipality shares a border to the northeast with Akim West Municipal, to the northwest with Birim-South District and to the South, with Gomoa District.
Agona West Municipal, Swedru as the capital and has a population of about 40,000. It lies to the north of Winneba and is about 40 km. Off the main Accra-Takoradi Highway. The location of the township makes it the commercial center or the region and a modal point from which roads radiate to the rich cocoa growing countryside of the Region. Has a total land area of 667 square kilometres.
The Agona West Municipal Assembly has directed the Agona West Directorate of the Ghana Education Service(GES),to compel private and public basic schools to take active part in the fourth National Sanitation Day.
Fifty-Three traditional rulers, including kingmakers in the Akyem Bosome Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, have pledged their unflinching support for the paramount chief of the area, Okotwaasuo Kantamanto Oworae Agyekum III.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has directed local assemblies in the region to gazette all bye-laws on Environmental Health and Sanitation towards curbing cholera and other filth-related health hazards.
