Kpone-Katamanso MCE plants first tree in Kpone

Mr Solomon Tettey Appiah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly, on Friday planted the first ceremonial tree in Kpone as part of activities to mark the Green Ghana Initiative.

The Municipal Chief Executive, together with some Clergymen from the municipality and officers from the municipal Assembly, took part in the tree planting exercise in Kpone.

Mr Appiah noted that measures would be put in place to protect the trees from stray animals, adding that residents should participate in the exercise to make the entire municipality green.

He said the trees would help restore the climate to its natural state so the world can be free from unpleasant climate change.

Speaking to the Tema Regional Office team of the Ghana News Agency in Kpone, Mr Albert Tsikata, Municipal Parks and Gardens officer, stated that the tress would also help beautify the communities as it gave residents a pleasant atmosphere for healthy living.

He said over eight different species of trees, which included, white willow, Mahogany, Nimtrees, Cacia, Boyalthia, Bauhinia, among other trees would be planted across the 18 electoral areas within the Kpone-Katamanso municipality.

Mr Tsikata described trees as treasures and it was the responsibility of residents to protect those planted in their various communities.

Pastor Charles Aryee, Chairman of the Kpone Local Council of Churches, said the tree planting exercise was a blessing to the various communities in the municipality.

He noted that climate change had affected everyone in the world and trees were the solution to the problem.

Pastor Aryee explained that trees promote good weather conditions and advised people to desist from felling trees.

The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly was expected to plant about 3,000 trees across the municipality.
