Govt to spray all year round for cocoa farmers

The Government of Ghana will for the first time in 2019 spray cocoa crops four times for farmers for free.

This was revealed by the District Manager for The Cocoa Health and Extension Division of the Ghana Cocobod, Mr. Felix Kwame Quainoo at a workshop held for Chief Farmers, Gang Leaders, Community Task Force and Mass Sprayers within the Twifo Praso Cocoa District, Friday.

According to Mr. Quainoo, since the start of cocoa mass spraying in 2001, government has been spraying twice in a year for farmers and the remaining two (2) times sprayed by the farmers themselves.

“But this year would an exception as government has decided to spray the usual two (2) times for them and supply them with the necessary chemicals to do the two other spraying themselves”, he added.

The District Manager then revealed that, this year’s mass spraying will begin on 1stApril, 2019.

The good news, he added was that, over 3, 000 cartons of the newly introduced chemical for this year has been received by his outfit and ready for distribution with about GHS1 million worth of Premix fuel.

To Him, this is the largest cartons of chemical ever received since He was posted to the District and it’s a sign of this government’s commitment to helping cocoa farmers.

He concluded by advising the sprayers to do a better job this year to improve production.
