Gallant farmers’ celebrated at Anyimaye

Asunafo North Municipal Assembly has honored its gallant farmers' at Anyimaye on occasion of 39th Farmers' Day Celebration.

Speaking at the occasion, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, Osei Yaw Boahen, said the farmers' day celebration was established by the Government in 1985 in recognition of the essential role the farmers’ and fishermen play to contribute to the economy in Ghana.

He noticed that farmers’ had some specific challenges such as climate change, how to acquire a piece of land to farm, post-harvest losses, capital to start the farm, fertilizer and others but upon all that, they had made great effort to produce the quantity to feed the Ghanaian as well as to do exportation.

He therefore emphasised that the government of Ghana under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo is capable and committed to support farmers free with farming inputs such as fertilizer, some agro chemicals and others to boost the farming system.

He added that Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo introduced one district one factory, planting for export and rural development, one village one Dam and one district one warehouse with intention to restore the farming produce and create employment for the youth in the municipality.

"In this district Government is yet to commission one district one factory at Fawohoyeden on the next year 2024 which will save guard and acomodate plenty of food in the municipality", he opined

The Municipal Agriculture Director, Mr Paul Atinbeok the 39th farmers’ day celebration in this municipality was an initiative to praise and thank the Ghanaian farmers and fishers for their services and their maximum contributions to feed the nation.

He further explained that apart from the recognition, the occasion also served as the motivation for farmers to remain dedicated to their duty towards feeding the nation. He pledged the municipal assembly's readiness to address the challenges of farmers.

“Challenges such as poor land acquisition, inadequate pesticides, fertilizer to improve and others the farming system is the responsibility of the assembly to create the necessary conducive environment for the agriculture sub sector work", he added.

He appealed to farmers not to destroy the environment such as indiscriminate bush burning, cutting down trees, destroying water bodies with intention to do illegal mining popularly known as galamsay.

The Omanhene of Anyimaye Traditional Council, Nana Owusu Adu Brempong II for his part appealed to the MCE of Asunafo North Municipal, Osei Yaw Boahen to protect all the natural resources in the area for the nation's development.

“Our problems, especially chainsaw operators, palm wine tappers, illegal mining who intentionally destroy the forest must be controlled and managed", he emphasized.

On the road subsector, he appealed to authorities to get the contractor back on site to make the transportation easier.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture (MoFA) honored the best municipal best farmer for his sterling work and tasked maximum corporations towards the nation's development.

Mr Kamara Kamiru, the Municipal best farmer was presented who won the overall best with Royal motorcycle (Aboboyaa), Wellington boot, knapsack sprayer, cutlasses etc and the 1st runner-up national best farmer who awarded with motor, insecticides spray, cutlasses amongst others to Mr Annia marting.
