Ga South Assembly fails to elect Presiding Member
Ga South Municipal Assembly failed in a bid to elect Presiding Member in two consecutive elections.

Two contenders’ namely; Peter Adonu of Hobor Electoral Area secured 10 votes whiles Winfred Aryetey a Government Appointee had 18 votes with I rejected ballot in the first round.

The process required two thirds majority in order to secure a win which both failed. A second attempt was no different, Peter Adonu having 14 and Winfred Aryetey 14 votes, I rejected the ballot.

Addressing the media, the Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Nyarni Stephen attributed the failed attempt to the fact that most Members are new to the local governance system; hence they’ll be engaged and schooled about the assembly's concept which is non-partisan.

According to him, this is the first time the assembly is witnessing a failed attempt to elect a Presiding Member since its inception.

He was hopeful that in the 10-days scheduled by the electoral commission, a Presiding Member will emerge.
