The furniture, funded under the District Development Facility (DDF), was made up of 15 teachers’ tables and chairs and 350 dual desks for distribution to schools in the area.

Mr Musah, making the presentation, said this was just the beginning of the Municipal Assembly giving out support to help address some of the educational challenges militating against the performance of the pupils in the area.

He said the situation where children lie flat on their belly to attend to classroom expectations would soon become history and assured the GES of more supplies of adequate furniture for all schools in the area.

Mr Musah said there is the need to re-enforce the maintenance culture on the furniture and ensure that they serve more pupils.

He urged Ghanaians to embrace government's Free SHS policy since government is determined to reduce the level of illiteracy in the country through education.

Mr Musah urged the children to take advantage of the Free SHS policy to help them climb up the educational ladder.

Mr Bright K. A Lawoe, the Municipal Director of Education (MDE), who received the furniture, commended the Municipal Assembly for the intervention and assured them that management would ensure that the furniture would be put to good use.

He appealed to the Assembly to help renovate some of the schools that had suffered destruction as a result of a heavy rain storm thereby affecting effective teaching and learning in the area.

Some of the affected schools, he said, included the Gumonaayili Primary School, Katani Primary School, Bogu-Kamonaayili Primary School, Samang-Yapala Primary School, Dikpung Primary School, Damdaboli Primary School, Galiwei Primary School, Fintoli Primary School and Nabuli Primary School.

Mr Lawoe said there has been an improvement in the performance of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) since the municipality has been able to move from 213 positions in 2017 to 203 position in 2018 on the annual nation-wide BECE rating.

He commended all those who worked tirelessly to realize this status and urged them not to rest on their oars.

Mr Lawoe said the Directorate has come up with a workable blue print to help address the educational challenges and help achieve educational excellence in the B E C E performance.

He said the directorate is working hard to reconstitute the Municipal Education Oversight Committee (MEOC) to make it functional and bring about quality education in the area.
