Anloga district tops health service delivery in Volta Region

The Health Directorate under the newly created Anloga District took the first position as the best service provider out of 18 Municipalities and Districts in the Volta Region.

A year into its administration, the district came top, followed by Central Tongu, Adaklu while Hohoe Municipal Directorate came last on the list of district ranking of holistic assessment in the Volta Region for the year 2020 under review spanning a period of four years.

The assessment was categorized under four thematic objectives. Each objective comprised of different indicators.

Objective one had 19 indicators including family planning acceptance rate, the proportion of mothers who made at least four Antenatal Clinic (ANC) visits under the sustainable, affordable, equitable and easily accessible healthcare services.

The second objective dwelt on reducing morbidity and mortality, intensify prevention and communicable diseases.

Objectives three and four focused on efficiency in governance and intensify prevention of communicable diseases respectively.

The District Director of Health, Perfect Titiati in a statement said the achievement was due to “leadership, teamwork, commitment and strive for excellence has brought us this far in just one year of our existence”.

The statement added that “our focus for the second year is to make our health facilities centres of excellence for leadership and service provision. We hope to improve on all key indicators and sustain the gains”.

It further identified inadequate critical staff such as community health nurses, inadequate laboratory services and low vaccination remains key challenges confronting quality health delivery.

The Anloga District is among the newly created assemblies by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

It has only clinics and Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds with no polyclinic or district hospital for critical health referrals.

This creates inconvenience for patients from adjoining communities who must travel to Keta Municipal Hospital, making access to health care low.

The only clinic in the Anloga district has many abandoned projects like the surgical theatre, labour wards started by the government some years back, and a substandard laboratory on its knees with obsolete medical equipment.

It’s the hope of the residents and health practitioners in the district that infrastructure will be improved to enhance health delivery to the over 25,000 population.

In order of ranking on the table; Anloga, Central Tongu, Adaklu, Afadzato South, Akatsi South, Keta, North Dayi, Akatsi North, Ho West, North Tongu, South Dayi, South Tongu, Agotime-Ziope, Ho, Ketu North, Ketu South, Kpando and Hohoe.
