Prospective registrants who want to get their names onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) were asked to go home or go to Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital for their NHIS registration.

When the Ghana News Agency visited the District NHIS office in Begoro, most of the officers were on duty serving clients who wanted to renew their expired NHIS cards but were not producing new cards due to the breakdown of the printers of the registration machines.

Some of the officers who spoke on condition of anonymity said, the situation was frustrating and called for immediate response from the regional and national executives of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

However, attempts by the Ghana News Agency to get the District Manager and some regional officers to speak on the issue proved futile as they were unwilling to speak to the media.

The Fanteakwa district currently has 16 health facilities including; CHPS compounds under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the Begoro Government Hospital, Salvation Army Health Clinic, the Osino Health Centre among others.
