Swiss Ambassador to Ghana calls on Mayor of Tamale
The Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana, Togo and Benin, Her Excellency ,Simone Giger paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu in his office.

Her visit formed part of a working tour of the metropolis to, as it were, familiarize with officials of partner Assemblies.

She also announced her plans to visit a couple of project sites to assess the progress of DPAT funded projects in the metropolis and to do some impact assessment of the same in the beneficiary communities.

Madam Giger used the platform to reiterate her administration’s commitment to explore a lot more funding opportunities and ultimately increase the budget amounts for Ghana within the framework of the cooperation agreements between the two countries (Ghana and Switzerland).


She expressed gratitude to management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and indeed the chiefs and people in the area for their hospitality and the audience granted her.

The Assembly under the able leadership of Mayor Sule Salifu was recognized by her excellency, Ambassador Giger for and on behalf of her government and people for its commitment to the development cooperation agreement so far rolled out and implemented for the benefit of the government and people of our country, Ghana.

Receiving the gesture, Mayor Sule commended the Swiss government through the leadership of the embassy, for consistently delivering huge funding support over the years to complement central government effort at meeting the development needs of the people of Ghana, particularly the rural Ghana and communities with higher vulnerabilities in terms of infrastructural gaps and the impacts it has on the lives and livelihoods of the people.


The Ambassador later inspected a number of development projects (under the partnership) including a one number 3-unit classroom block with furniture and other ancillary facilities at Bethany school complex.

Rounding up the field visit, her team was at the Tamale West Hospital where she inspected an ultramodern OPD block which was constructed by the Tamale Metro Assembly with the DPAT or District Development facility. She was there in the company of some officials of the host Assembly.

In an exclusive interview with some of the health care providers at the facility , it was disclosed that the intervention has impacted greatly with increasing levels of operational capacity to deliver a lot more improved health care services and ultimately saw a reduction in the disease burden of the Greater Tamale Area.
