The training was aimed at tutoring participants on the various methods of social investigation in order to improve upon the performance of staff.

The facilitator for the programme who is also the Deputy Director and Head of the Child, Family Welfare Division, Department of Social Welfare (Head Office) told participants that the work of every social worker and their investigation are backed by law.

He reiterated that section 19 of the children's Act 1988 explains the core principle of a social welfare department worker, adding that their work is basically not the crime of the individual, especially the child but the factors that led to the crime in question.

He also added that it was the duty of the social development worker to report on findings in Day Cares and foster homes to help improve the livelihood of the children.

He emphasized that with many efforts; about 1,137 people have been trained to become foster parents across the country.

On the child study report, the facilitator again explained that a child cannot be cleared for adoption or a foster home with a study report detailing the child’s background report, health report and all other essential reports on the child.

On his part, the Head of Social welfare and community development, Mr. Robert Mensah Gbley, said the Assembly would try to organize more such workshops to help enhance the performance of the staff.
