Community mining scheme launched at Tokwai
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor has launched a community mining scheme at Tokwai in the Ashanti Akim South Municipality to curb illegal mining activities (galamsey) and ensure that proper mining techniques are adopted to create jobs for the youth.

The scheme is structured and well planned to do away with toxic and dangerous chemicals like cyanide in the form of sodium cyanide, and Mercury, which at the end of the day destroy water bodies and in effect, pose danger to secondary consumers.


Speaking at the launch, the Minister stated that the community mining scheme is only for the local people, and for that matter Ghanaians, and not for foreigners.


The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for area Mr. Alexander Frimpong thanked the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo and Mr. Abu Jinapor for such a bold step to replace illegal mining with a more sustainable and environmentally friendly green mining which will also create jobs for the youth of Asante Akim South.


Leadership of youth groups in the municipality thank the Member of Parliament for the area Mr. Kwaku Asante Boateng and the MCE for the initiative and also encourage their fellow youth not only to take advantage of the scheme but to adhere to rules and guidelines that comes with the scheme for a sustainable means of livelihood.
