ADANSI N: NCCE educates public on corruption
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) of the Adansi North District has educated the people of Old Edubiase on corruption and the role citizens ought to play in making Ghana a corruption free country.

Speaking at the function was the Ashanti Regional Deputy Director of NCCE Mr. Joseph Kwaku Yeboah who revealed to participants that, the government of Ghana has embarked on an anti-corruption programme dubbed, “ The Whistle Blowing Mechanism and Anti- Corruption Strategy’’ to eliminate corruption and its related matters from the country.

He said, citizens have a role to play in tackling corruption in the country by utilizing the Whistle Blowing Mechanism and Anti-Corruption Strategy.

He added that, this could be done by reporting all corruption cases to the appropriate quarters for the appropriate action to be taken in prosecuting culprits after proper investigations have been conducted into the said corrupt case.

Defining corruption, the Districts’ NCCE Director, Mr. S.Y. Asamoah said, “it is the use of entrusted power for private gains”. He appealed to participants to contribute their quota in fighting against corruption and charged the various religious leaders to preach against corruption and bribe.

He further said that, the whistle blowers law empowers citizens to provide information to law enforcement agencies on act of corruption without any victimization and mentioned the Economic and Organized Crime Office, the Police and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice are empowered by the state to deal with corruption cases.

Participants engaged the officials during the open forum and had their issues and concerns addressed accordingly.
