Don Bosco Technical Institute holds 21ST graduation ceremony

Don Bosco Technical Institute, a government assisted technical school in the Sunyani West District in the Bono Region, with the aim of training youth in technical/technology and vocational skills has held its 21st graduation ceremony for a total of 117 students at Odumasi.

The graduates were trained in various disciplines such as Creative Arts, Electrical Installation, Secretarial Studies, Catering and Hospitality, Wood Work Technology, Welding and Fabrication, General Agriculture, Building Technology and Computer Technology. Out of the 117students, 90 were males and 27 were females. Mr. Emmanuel Amanugulo, the senior prefect for the graduating class was adjudged the overall best student.

Mrs. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), who was the special guest of honor for the ceremony applauded the graduating students for their achievements.

She advised the graduands to see themselves as employers and not only seek employment but to create for themselves and others. She said they need to think outside the box, venture into entrepreneurship and practice the skills they learnt in school.

Touching on the theme for the graduation, “Re-alignment of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the right step towards the achievement of Ghana beyond aid”, the Deputy Minister said for Ghana to achieve the policy, Technical Education should be given the need attention. She noted that under his Excellency the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo government, the necessary support to Technical Education in the country is been given to achieve the policy.

Mrs. Gifty Twum-Ampofo promised to get the school a pick-up and 10 seater toilet each for both boys and girls in the school to help ease some of the numerous challenges her attention was drawn

Mr. Martin Obeng District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sunyani West advice the students to take their studies serious. Mr. Obeng pledged One Hundred Bags of cement to the school project and also promised to work on their roads.

The Head Master of the School, Rev. Patrick Sokuu advised the graduands that after acquiring the needed skills and competencies, they were not expected to be job seekers but rather to create jobs and be self-reliance.

He outlined some challenges of the school to include as insufficient tables and chairs, dining hall tables, benches for the school Assembly Hall, inadequate training materials, unreliable portable drinking water on campus, inadequate workshop facilities, no administration vehicle (pickup), poor toilet facility and refurbishing of staff common room.

Based on the above challenges, he appealed to government, individuals, corporate organizations and other stakeholders to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the school.
