Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo inaugurates Kwabenya circuit court

The Chief Justice, Her ladyship chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo inaugurated the new Kwabenya Circuit court building at Atomic within the Ga East Municipality.

The Chief Justice stated in her inaugural address that the Circuit Court’s establishment fulfills the Judiciary Service’s strategic aim to increase citizens’ access to high-quality justice by placing courts nearby the people.

She urged the registrar and the judge to appreciate that they are a representation of justice in the community and it imposes on them and to ensure and also reassure the people that the law is here to work for them and with them.

She commended the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, and the Administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund for providing regular funding support for the project.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the area (MCE) Elizabeth Kaakie Mann said the inauguration was a result of the collective effort of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, the District Assembly Common Fund Secretariat and the Judicial Service; adding that it was a unique initiative which is aimed at addressing the problem of inadequate court infrastructure across the country.

The MCE applauded the government’s responsiveness to the Judiciary’s vision of ensuring equal and affordable access to quality justice as well as enhancing public confidence in the justice delivery and court administration system.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Sarah Adwoa Safo in her address indicated that Ga East being the largest and most populated municipality in the country deserves to have an edifice such as this and expressed her profound gratitude to GAEC for the land and the District Assembly Common Fund Secretariat and the Judicial Service for their various support.

Nii Adjetey Mohenu the Abokobi mantse who also doubles as the President of Ga East Chiefs' Association, in his address admonished the security agents to treat the people well and not cause any fear and panic, adding that he can assure them that the traditional rulers would help them obtain law and order.
