Activities like bush burning and most endemic these days is illegal mining popularly known as galamsey which activities knows no bound, so long as the ground is believed to habour gold are major contributing factors to this.

It is therefore not surprising that the government was compelled by the alarming rate of destruction to the environment that it banned all small scale mining activities and instituted a task force to ensure a clampdown on such practices with the view to preserving the remaining forest and its habitats.

In light of this, the Fanteakwa District Assembly being the local administrators to ensure resources under its care are properly managed for the collective benefits of the people has constituted a committee to manage the forest reserve in collaboration with the Forestry Director at the Assembly.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Charles Oware – Tweneboah speaking to Ghanadistricts.com said the committee will help in the effective management and monitoring of the forest reserves to prevent further destruction of the forest and forest species.

On agriculture production, the DCE disclosed that the Assembly provided 43,000 cocoa pods to farmers and they only incurred the cost of transport, adding that the 43,000 pods will generate 12,000 seedlings from the researchers for distributions to farmers.
