TMA Celebrates Farmers
A 52-year-old farmer who hails from Tema Manhean, George Adams has been crowned the 2021 overall best farmer at the 37th Tema Best Farmers celebration in the Tema Metropolis. For his reward, Mr. Adams received one tricycle and agriculture assorted items worth 15 thousand, Ghana cedis.

He has over 700 local broilers birds in his poultry farm, 3 acres of onion, one acre of maize, one acres of okro, one thousand broliers, one hundred and 70 ducks, 30 sheep, 30 domestic fowls and 17 goats as well has 6 people as permanent employees.


Addressing the ceremony, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Yohane Nii Armah Ashitey says Tema can do more for farmers in view of the tremendous role they play in the socio-economic development of the Tema Metropolis and the nation as whole.

He said Tema has the capacity to produce, but there is more room for improvement. This is because they are doing a lot for Tema and the national economy, and if there are ways they can be appreciated more to boost their self-confidence for productivity.

Nii Armah Ashitey noted that the assembly is resolved to grow the capacity of the small holder farmers in the Tema Metropolis, this according to him is a key tool to enhance their farming activities.

The Tema Metro Director of Agric, Esther Mba said government is committed in transforming the agric sector into technological and business driving is guarantee for productivities, food security, and profitability and reduce post-harvest losses across the country.


She therefore congratulated the farmers and asked individuals and organizations to in their own small way support and encourage farming in their activities in the Tema Metropolis.

According to her, lack of potable water for irrigation farming activities is hindering productivity in the metropolis. In all 12 farmers and fishers were adjudged as Tema metro best farmers.
