Afigya Kwabre South supports persons with disability

The Afiagya Kwabre South District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has presented different types of supports to persons with disabilities in the district as their share of the Assembly's Common Fund to help improve upon their living condition.

In all, eighty (80) persons with various forms of disabilities including the visually and hearing impaired, mentality deranged and the physically challenged, benefited from the support.

The beneficiaries received items ranging from Deep Freezer, wheel chairs, shoes grinder among others.

Other supports include payment of medical bills, artificial leg surgery, school fees, financial support for start-up businesses and petty trading as well.

Speaking at the programme, the District Chief Executive for Afiagya Kwabre South District, Adu-Poku Christian said, the disbursement of the funds was in line with the constitutional requirement of ensuring the creation of equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.

He said, the government would continue to assist the vulnerable to create a level playing field to help lessen the economic burden of the PWDs through prudent policies and initiatives geared towards creating jobs and improving livelihoods of the persons with disabilities.

He revealed that, this year's support was the highest presentation so far since the inception of the fund in the District.

He then, advised the beneficiaries to makes good use of the support to reflect positively in their lives.

The DCE who was so passionate about persons with disabilities tasked the government institutions to make the various facilities more friendly to PWD's to ensure easy accessibility and not to stigmatize against them but rather co-exist with them since they all our brothers and sisters in the society.

The chairman of the Federation of the disabled, Mr. John Asamoah on behalf of the beneficiaries commended the (NPP) government for the increased in percentage of the disabilities share of the District Assembly's Common fund from 2.5% to 3% and thanked the District Assembly for the support.

He, therefore, pledged to utilize the items judiciously in order to achieve the intended purpose.
