Ministry to prioritise MMDCEs training for development
Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGDRD), Daniel Botwe, Minister for Local Government has disclosed that Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be trained for better performance to deepen local governance at the local level.

These were in a speech by the Minister at a three-day zonal refresher training programme for 69 MMDCES in three Regions at Cape Coast in the Central Region. The programme will address challenges of managerial competencies and professionalism for better performance.The refresher course, categorised in four zones is a follow-up of national orientation organised for MMDCEs in Accra held last October.

The Minister noted that except Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Adaklu, and Akatsi North in the Volta Region, all MMDCEs have been confirmed and assumed office. He encouraged the Chief Executives to use the training to engage their peers and the professionals to gain knowledge to improve their performance.

The three-day zonal refresher course will tackle the Management of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies as a business to promote livable cities and towns: Greening Ghana and Climate Change Adaptation and Overview of Chief Executives Performances.The Ministry will retool and revamp the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) to train local government functionaries and staff.

It will also serve as an avenue for the MMDCEs to share experiences with resource persons and policymakers to re-strategise to solve local development challenges.

It is also to help MMDCEs develop new leadership and managerial competencies and professionalism to enhance their performance as the chief representatives of the President.

The programme was attended by 22 MMDCEs from Central, 33 from Eastern and 14 from Western.
