This follows the assurance from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Jerry Ahmed Shaib of Friday, September 2, 2022 at the sod-cutting ceremony to commence construction of the project.

The multipurpose sports project which according to the CEO of CODA would be executed in phases comes with the astroturf with changing rooms, sitting area, as well as volleyball court, stores, summer hat among other interesting facilities.

Meanwhile, the first phase, the astroturf would be ready by December.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Patrick Kwesi Kumor expressed delight the project would soon come on stream to relieve the students and residents who have been using the known 'Sakora Park' for sporting activities at the peril of hurting themselves since the park is rocky and without grass.

The MCE said the government is committed to sport development and is doing everything possible including partnering with relevant institutions and individuals to ensure sports infrastructure is given a boost in all metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies to motivate the youth to develop their talents in sports.

The New Gbawe Cluster of Schools astroturf project is being made possible through the collaboration between Oxygen Capital Group of Dubai through the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) and the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly.

Moses Atobrah from Oxygen Capital Group said they are ready to partner all MMDAs to implement similar projects, and appealed to authorities to remove all bottlenecks that hinder the smooth implementation of developmental projects.

He said government alone is unable to meet the developmental needs of society, hence the need to partner with corporate institutions and individuals with the hope of accelerating development.
