Oforikrom Assembly sets community watchdog committee
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Oforikrom in the Ashanti Region, Madam Gloria Temmah Gambrah has inaugurated Neighborhood Watch Committee at Ayigya Zongo in Kumasi.

The move forms part of efforts to help fight crime in the community and the Municipality at large.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Madam Gambrah assured the committee of the Assembly’s maximum support for their work to help maintain peace in the area.

She also revealed that the assembly was working tirelessly to provide the community with the basic amenities to help improve livelihoods.



On his part, Assembly member for the area, Mr. Issaka Ali Sambo enumerated some of the challenges facing the community and these includes burglary, drug abuse, unauthorized parking of vehicles on the shoulders of the road, reckless riding of motorbikes, poor lighting system, poor drainage systems, bad roads, among others.

He therefore requested the government to come to their aid in that regard.

Again, Mr. Issaka told the gathering that the volunteers have come to help fight and prevent crime in the community, adding that plans are in place to complement the work of the police by providing community policing in the area.


The KNUST District Police Commander, Superintendent Fred Hammond also advised the volunteers not to take the law into their hands but they should be law abiding and work diligently to protect lives and property.

He again encouraged parents to be responsible in catering for their children because parental neglect is one of the major causes of drug abuse and criminal activities in this country.


In attendance was Mr. Faisal Ismail, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of Neighborhood Watch Committees, the Presiding Member for Oforikrom Municipal, Mr. Frank Frimpong, Assembly Members, Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, ACP Kwaku Buah, KNUST District Police Commander, Superintendent Fred Hammond, KNUST District Crime Officer, ASP Isaac Kofi Obiri and KNUST District Detective Inspector, Chief Inspector Eric Dela Aglah.

The other dignitaries were the representative of Nana Ayigyahemaa, Nana Kusi Abayie, Sarkin Zongo of Ayigya Alhaji Muhammed Bashir Saeed II and his Chiefs, Imams, Mallams, former Assembly Members, Opinion Leaders, Landlords.
