Massive cleanup exercise heralds 2023 Odwira Festival

Residents of Akropong in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region have embarked on a massive cleanup exercise as part of their preparation towards the 2023 – Odwira festival, a testament that prove their commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy community.

These clean up exercise structures by the Akuapem Traditional Council and the Office of Okuapehene under the able leadership of His Royal Majesty Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III- Okuapehene. The Theme for this year’s Akuapem Odwira Festival is “Eco-tourism to foster sustainable development”.

In an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North, Mr. Barima Awuah Sarpong Asiedu-Larbi explained that, in every year, before the festival will take off they embark on clean-up exercise to ensure that the entire township become neat to pave way for the festival.

He added that, “the Odwira festival is being celebrated to perform tradition and custom to purified the town and also to ask God for his mercies and blessings upon the town in subsequent years”

“This programme we embarked on is in support of the sanitation system we want to put in place to maintain their position as third best sanitation Municipality and also looking forward to becoming overall best in all the 261 MMDA’s in Ghana.

” So we took this clean up exercise upon ourselves to create awareness to the people of Okuapemman to know and understand how importance it is to beautify their various communities or environment regularly to prevent themselves from getting diseases like malaria and cholera and also to stay healthy”

Barima Aseidu-Larbi emphasized that the cleanup exercise was well attended by Zoom Lion, Local schools, Community Groups and some Volunteers.
