MCE takes delivery of 136 Pit-latrines
Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni-Valley, Mr Mozart Kweku Owuh took delivery of first batch of 136 Pit-latrines under the Community Led Total Sanitation program (CLTS).

The Community led total sanitation (CLTS), is an approach used mainly in developing countries to improve sanitation and hygiene practices in communities. It focuses on spontaneous and long-lasting behavior change of an entire community.

The Pit-latrines are aimed at empowering communities within Prestea Huni-valley Municipality to end open defecation as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 6 which sought to achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations by 2030.


The elimination of open defecation is recognized as a top priority for improving health, nutrition and productivity of people within the municipality and country at large.

The assembly is igniting community interest in ending open defecation, by building simple toilets, such as pit- latrines.

Beneficiary communities are Tetteh Nkwanta, Bayereagya, Pemeso, Cocoa Shed, Apiate, Entowoada-kojo bortey, others are Mfantefokrom, Broni Nkwanta, Ayensukrom II, Wassa Akwapim, Gyimakrom, Adofo camp and Achiase aboso.

The MCE is of hope steps taken by the assembly will lead to increase self-respect and pride in one's community.
