The Chief of Kwanwoma in the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti region, Nana Kofi Adjei IV, has embarked on a vigorous development of the community.

In spite of the belief that development is the sole responsibility of the Central government, the Kwanwomahene seeks to tell a different story with his intervention. He has since his ascension to the Okra Addo Stool, about 20 years ago, as Kwanwomahene, made tremendous efforts to change the image of the town.

The chief has taken steps to rehabilitate the road from Daban, through Ampabame, to Trede Junction, in order to enhance easy transportation. From his own resources, he has built a 10-seater KVIP for the town, drilled four bore holes, one of which is almost complete, to enable the community access water regularly.Considering how fast the community is growing, Nana Kofi Adjei has worked to secure an additional transformer in order to sustain energy supply in the town.

With the belief that education is important, he has provided a large tract of land for the establishment of a local Senior High School. The chief is also constructing an11-Unit classroom block, with office and store to replace the old dilapidated primary school block. The chief is also the brain behind the Kwanwoma Boys Senior High School, which has already taken off with 21 students as pioneers.

The chief has reserved parcels of land for industries and a university, and is awaiting investors to enter into partnership with him for the take of the projects.

The District Chief Executive, Nana Kwabena Nkrumah, who paid a familiarization visit to the  town recently, praised Nana Kofi Adjei and his elders for the significant role they have been playing to move the development of the area high, and assured that the Assembly would do its part to support them.

After being conducted round on-going projects by Nana Kofi Adjei and his elders at the permanent site of the SHS, where six-unit classroom blocks and a store by the Assembly is being constructed, Nana Kwabena Nkrumah indicated that the Assembly is ready to offer financial assistance up to University level to any student of the SHS, who puts up an extraordinary performance in their academic work

He, however, expressed his worry about the laisser-faire attitude of people towards state properties. He said “the notion that a property or project belongs to the state,” as held by many Ghanaians, is seriously retarding the development of the country. The DCE stressed that “Government is a function of each and every individuals’ contribution and urged the people to develop the spirit of nationalism to protect property belonging to the community”.

Nana Nkrumah has called for total collaboration between the people and the Assembly to enable the district move forward. He was emphatic that as the political head of the district, he would not allow the politics to create animosity among the indigenes of the area. “Let’s put our political colours aside and seek the development of Atwima Kwanwoma”, he said.

According to him, history has it that because of varying opinions of their predecessors, based on their different political affiliations, Atwima Kwanwoma, though at a vantage location in the region, is still groping with the problem of underdevelopment

Meanwhile, Nana Kofi Adjei has appealed to the DCE to help the community to put up an administration and dormitory block for the school and use his influence to see to it that the road leading to the school is put in good shape. He also wants electricity extended to the place.

He announced that the health centre in the town is now being upgraded to meet the standard of a hospital. He announced that the Member of Parliament for the Area, Dr. Appiah Kubi is building a 10-room block for the health facility in the area out of his share of the MP’s Common Fund.

Nana Kofi Adjei reminded the people that chieftaincy is not about lording it over the people but helping them to realize their needs with regard to development and called on his people to be hard working in order for them to achieve their stated goals.
