Ashanti Regional Education Director, Mr Kofi Sarfo-Kantanka has urged teachers to go the extra mile to make the school environment pupil-friendly.

He said they should make deliberate efforts to avoid anything that could lead the children to become disinterested in their education and eventually drop out.

Mr Sarfo-Kantanka said this while interacting with teachers, parents, pupils and community leaders at Ofoase-Kokoben, Adjemesu and Anwhiankwanta in the Bekwai Municipality.

He spoke against the use of the cane and other corporal punishments to maintain discipline among pupils and said the Ghana Education Service does not approve of that”.

Erring children, he said, could be corrected through mild punishment like being asked to sweep or tidy the classroom.

The Regional Director also reminded parents to cut down on frivolous spending to save enough money to meet the educational needs of their wards.

He urged parents to put more value on education by doing everything to provide their wards with the basic school needs, adding that under no circumstance should they allow economic and work pressures to deny their young ones, the deserved attention.

Mr Sarfo-Kantanka used the occasion to remind the pupils to take responsibility for their education by accepting to work hard on their books.
