The District Chief Executive for East Mamprusi District, Mr. Adam Imoro, has expressed worry about the imminent danger the Gambaga/Nalerigu Dam poses as it stands to break its banks any
time soon.

The dam, which serves as a source of drinking and bathing water for the two towns in the dry season, has developed deep gullies around its banks and could break to spill water.

The spilt water could wash away parts of the Gambaga-Nalerigu road and destroy farms as well as lives.

Mr. Imoro said this when he toured the dam to see the damage caused to it by the flood that occurred at the peak of the rains this year.

He appealed to the government and development partners to as a matter of emergency to assist the district to rehabilitate the dam to avert any calamity.

The GNA spotted some parts of the Gambaga-Nalerigu road which have already been chopped off by the rains and it is likely that the dam may not stand the next rainy season.

Mr. Imoro said the district cannot contain the situation because it was financially constrained hence the need for assistance.

He said the dam had not seen any rehabilitation since its construction in the 1960s.

Mr Imoro said if the dam was left to collapse, dry season farming would come to a halt and this would increase poverty since majority of the people use the dam for dry season farming.
