The scholarship which covers three academic years benefitted 20 girls and 10 boys. The number is an increase from the previous years of 20.

The World Bank funded project which was launched in 2014 is aimed at increasing access with equity in senior high schools in under-served districts and improving quality in low performing senior high schools in the country.

So far 125 schools from selected districts across all ten regions are benefiting from the scholarship packages.

Presenting the package to the beneficiary students, the District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District, Mr. James Gunu touted government’s achievement in the education sector which attest to its commitment to improving human resource development for accelerated development. This he said was not surprising because one of the pillars of the manifesto was “Investing in People” of which education is an integral part.

The DCE advised the beneficiary students to focus on their academic activities and abstain from social vices that will not add anything positive to their lives.

He reminded parents to remain committed to performing their parental roles in helping government and school management committees in nurturing the students to become useful to society in future.

Mr. Gunu added that government as part of the Secondary Education Improvement Programme has added a number of infrastructure as well as logistics to existing one at the Ave Senior High among which include construction of Assembly hall and kitchen complex, construction of boys’ dormitory, administration block which has been awarded on contract, 6-unit block with the assembly also helping with the walling of the school, drilling of boreholes for the school and provision of 2No. 4600 liter capacity polytank to solve water problem in the school all in an effort to ensure they have the right environment for teaching and learning.

Also present were headmaster, Mr. Prosper Addo, Director of Education, Parents and Assemblymen and teachers.
