Minister of Health, Agyeman Kwaku Manu submitted that the people of the Akuapem owe the Member of Parliament for the area a great deal of gratitude for the role she played in securing the project.

He explained that she persistently reopens the discussions anytime she finds him at the presidency, and was of the opinion that government had agreed with the contractor to rehabilitate the entire hospital including the OPD, Main wards, Children’s ward, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Male’s ward, Surgical and medical rooms, Maternity ward and Laundry among many others.

Again, he mentioned that the facility after refurbishment would be installed with modern incubators, gas system, and sophisticated generator to power electricity as well as interconnectivity of computer system. He said this would eradicate completely the orthodox system of moving around with hospital cards and folders from consulting rooms to the laboratory and other places of diagnoses.

The Health Minister opined that the NPP government as part of its agenda had planned to make education and health its core priority, and further explained that his team had visited four communities including Kyebi, Atibie and Aburi in the Eastern Region alone to commission similar projects earlier.

This means that government is casting its net wide to every nook and cranny of the country for every community to have its fair share of the national cake. He also told the people to count themselves lucky because government had decided to open a nursing school at the hospital in spite of earlier decision of cabinet not to create any new nursing school because of the large number. He said 85 nursing schools exist currently in the country but announced that this school when completed, would specialize in children care only.

He called on all the chiefs and people of the area to give peace and unity space which would eventually serve as a springboard for development in the area.

In another development, the Eastern Regional Minister also congratulated the MP and all and sundry who play roles in bringing the project to the area. He was of the opinion that Tetteh Quarshie through the Cocoa pod had placed Ghana on the world map.

He said through cocoa beans, Ghana had built the Akosombo Dam, the Tema Motor way and the 4 main universities among many others. He said if the only hospital that remembers him is deteriorating it is well and appropriate to rebuild it. He also called on the chiefs to unite the people and bury their differences to give peace a chance.

On her part, the MP for the Constituency, Nana Ama Dokua thanked His Excellency the President Nana Akufo Addo and the Health Minister for championing the course of the project. He said health care from day one had been part of her agenda and she would go the extra mile to achieve it for the benefit of the people of her constituency who gave her the mandate as Member of Parliament.

She called for all hands on deck to propel the Constituency to its expected level. He touched on the fact that if development and tourism would thrive well, then all would depend on Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.

She pleaded with the contractor of the project to consider the youth in the area when he is recruiting masons, carpenters, labourers and the likes. This, she said would open job avenues for the youth, she concluded.
