300 farmers in Juaboso District registered under PERD

A total of 300 farmers have been registered under the Planting for Food and Export initiative (PERD), in the Juaboso District in the Western North Region.

They have also been provided with 32,000 oil palm seedlings to commence the programme.

Mrs Martha Kwayie Manu, the Juaboso District Chief Executive, said this when she met the press to announce government flagship programmes and intervention being executed in the District.

She said the assembly has chalked some success in sectors such as the economy, education, health, agriculture and other development projects.

Mrs Manu said 557 youth have been recruited to undertake a pollination and prunning exercise, while 1,660 farmers were engaged in the Planting for Food and Jobs.

The DCE said more than 721 youth were also employed under the Youth Employment in Aforestation and Forest Investment Programme.

She said the assembly is constructing 1,000 metric ton grain warehouse to store excess grains that would be cultivated under the PFJ.

On education, Mrs Manu said the assembly has been able to construct six classroom blocks with toilet facilities in Brekom, Atieleve, Adamase, Eyenyameden communities and that 500 dual desks have also been supplied to some schools in the District.

She said the assembly is constructing a modern girls dormitory for the Juaboso Senior High School to accommodate the beneficiaries of the Free SHS programme.

She said 31 community schools are benefiting from the School Feeding Programme and that the assembly has managed to secure scholarships for 119 tertiary students in the District.

On the health, Mrs Manu said the assembly was supporting the construction of a childrenâ€˜s ward at the Juaboso District Hospital, while 100, 800 mosquito bed nets have been given to the district hospital to be distributed to 42,545 households.

In the area of roads, the DCE said contract has been awarded for the construction of the Juabeso town roads and Boinsan Junction to Boinsan route.

Mrs Manu said the assembly has reshaped most of the feeder roads at Adiembra, Abrokofe, Brekom and Boinsan, all farming communities in the district.

The DCE said with the One Million Dollars One Constituency initiative, the assembly benefitted from the construction of a modern market, mechanized boreholes, slaughter house, classroom blocks, and toilet facilities in Bonsu Nkwanta, Asempaneye and Antobia communities.

She said the assembly has also supported eighteen communities on Self Help Projects, adding that 151 youth have been engaged under the NABCO and 441 under the Youth Employment Agency.
