The Director-General said “the Agency, and the internal Audit Units work to control, safeguard and manage our scares resources” adding that, “the Internal Audit Agency has a legal mandate to ensure that national resources are adequately safeguarded and used economically, efficiently and effectively.

Mr Agyei stated this when speaking at a two-day Annual Internal Audit Conference at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC). This year’s event was under theme: “Protecting National Resources: The Role of Oversight Bodies”.

In his welcome address, Mr Agyei further emphasized that, the Agency's role of oversight responsibilities regarding the country's resources could not be underestimated, adding that in situations where oversight bodies renege on their oversight duties, the national resource would be in danger and “future generations shall suffer the disastrous consequences.”

He thus charged public bodies to be vigilant and ensure that the national resource are safeguarded and used optimally in transparent, ethical, accountable and responsible manner for the benefit of this generation and generations yet unborn.

The Director-General further seized the opportunity to call for all hands on deck in the protection of the Natural Resources. He continued that, the protection of natural resources should be a collective responsibility that involves active interest and duty of care by the ordinary citizenry.

He concluded by appealing for better conditions of service for staff of the Internal Audit Unit while again calling on the government to address issues surrounding compensation and disparity of salaries that exit between internal auditors and their counterparts in Ghana Audit Service, Ghana Revenue Authority and other agencies.
