Dep Health Minister inspects Tarkwa Nursing & Midwifery School

Deputy Health Minister and MP for Weija-Gbawe, Hon Tina Mensah, has reiterated Government’s continued efforts to equip and enhance the state of Nursing and Midwifery Training School and Community offering training to students nationwide.

Hon Tina Mensah disclosed that a strict road map had been put in place with support from the Municipal Assembly to help government and the Health Ministry work efficiently at upgrading the facilities in the training schools.

The Minister was speaking during an inspection tour of the Tarkwa Nursing and Midwifery Training School in Tarkwa to have a feel of the state of affairs as well as gather information which will inform the budget for the health sector.

The Deputy Health Minister further urged Management and staff to continue working hard even in the midst of their constraints, adding that government was committed to the health sector and was constantly looking at how to address the challenges of the sector.

She commended the administrative chain and the staff for the uniformity they attach to their work, and called for more dedication and improvement.

She expressed satisfaction at the neatness of the facility as well as the uniformity and disciplined composure with which she was received in the School.

She pledged with the Ministry’s support to the new campus project which will soon commence.

The MCE on his part explained that the School has undergone some transformation since he assumed office citing the upgrading of the school into midwifery in addition to the general nursing program it was running previously.

The MCE appealed for a staff bus and an extra bus to assist in transporting the students for clinical duties in and outside Tarkwa.

The administrator of the school outlined some of the challenges facing the School, some of which include plumbing, lack of books and materials at the library, vehicle to perform official duties.

He pleaded with the health Minister to support in purchasing practical medical equipment needed for improved teaching and learning process.

In attendance was the Presiding Member for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Benjamin Kesse and Constituency Chairman for New Patriotic Party, Benjamin Asabre.
