Sefwi Wiawso is capital of Western North Region
President Nana Akufo-Addo has declared Sefwi Wiawso as regional capital for the newly created Western North Region.

The President made the announcement at the Jubilee House today, February 15th, 2019 when he presented the Constitutional Instrument (CI 117) to the Region.

Speaking at the event, President Akufo-Addo noted that the Western North region was specifically mentioned in the Party's manifesto prior to the 2016 election, adding that "we pledged to help create it, if its residents so wished, in order to open it up for accelerated development."

“To the people of the municipalities and districts of Aowin, Bia East, Bia West, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Bodi, Juabeso, Sefwi Akontombra, Sefwi Wiawso and Suman, I can assure you that the Western Noth administration has been created to bring governance closer to you, and accelerate your socio-economic development”, he added.

The President further added that, an amount of GHs 20 million seed money has been allocated for the provision of critical infrastructure to enable Western North region take off smoothly.

Meanwhile, Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Afriyie has been appointed caretaker minister for the new region until a substantive minister is appointed.
