He noted that blaming waste contractors is not the solution to addressing the waste problem in the capital rather a shared responsibility of all stakeholders.

Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda had early on blamed the high level of filth in Ghana on Zoomlion Ghana Limited for failing to perform to satisfaction as a waste management service provider.

“We have given the waste contractors contract and they have challenges we need to continue to work with them and help address their problems”, he said.

He revealed as a former mayor of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) that, “I was spending one million Ghana cedis every month for the collection of waste, I knew we could not afford it, that is why I gave contract to 10 waste companies”.

Residents were to pay for the collection of their waste, the question is did the residents pay as they are suppose to do? He queried.

Again we should support the effort of the waste companies and stop this, “we just blame the waste management companies, when we know we have not set up enough sanitation courts I started the courts”.

“I differ from the Sanitation Minister, he has the responsibility to make sure that more courts are set up and has a programme to support the waste management companies in discharging their duties”.
