DCE Hands Over 2-Unit KG Block In Doung
The District Chief Executive Officer for the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Katherine T. Lankono has handed over a 2- Unit Kindergarten block to the people of Doung, a farming community in the District.

The facility comprises an office complex, Wash room with water closet, Kitchen and a staff common room to add to the classroom structures and was handed over to the Roman Catholic school in Duong in Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region.

Constructed with full funding (Ghc246, 000) from the Government of Ghana, the facility is expected to lighten the massive infrastructural gap the school currently bedevilling the school.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the DCE emphasized that, Catholic Education has been part and parcel of the missionary work in Northern Ghana since its inception, because education is about human promotion.

She added , illiteracy, which leads to poverty and misery are obstacles to the development of the school children.
The District Chief Executive, Katherine T.Lankono said education had been her priority and she would endeavor to elevate the standard of teaching and learning in the District.

She encouraged the school going age children of the district to be serious with their books since free Senior High School policy has come to complement the effort of their parents.

The Free Senior High School Policy (FSHSP), which is the flagship education programme of the New Patriot Party (NPP) government, has finally been implemented.

Under the FSHSP, government will be required to foot all bills – including feeding fees, tuition fees and all other charges – with regard to students starting from the 2017/2018 academic year.

She admonished the authorities to take very good care of the structure and called on the teachers to espouse the principles of commitment, dedication, discipline, sacrifice and hard work; and make their relationship with pupils formative and transformative for the school to grow and develop.

Whilst admonishing the school to preserve the environment and plant trees, she applauded the District assembly, GES office, the chiefs and opinion leaders for the diverse support they have been rendering to the school.

The total enrolment of the school according to the school authority currently stands at 200 pupils, consisting of 120 boys and 80 girls at KG1 and KG2.

Whilst thanking the DCE and the Assembly man for Doung electoral Area, David Ganye the Duong Youth and development Chairman Wa Branch for the kind gesture, he called on the DCE to again assist the community with a medical officer to be stationed at the Duong Bones Setting centre and connect the community to the national grid.

The ceremony was graced by the community chief,opinion leaders,women,students, the landlord of the community, representative of the District director of GES, parents and the media.

Some women who could not hid their joy sang songs of praises and called on the DCE to come to the constituency and contest as the Member of Parliament for the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency.
