New Juaben South undertakes 3rd sanitation exercise

New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has embarked on its 3rd sanitation exercise.

The Municipal Chief Executive joined by Some New Patriotic Party Executives, Assembly Members, the deaf and dump group, taxi drivers, staff of the assembly, traditional leaders and the Nigerian Student Association of the All Nations University took it upon themselves to tackle filth and choked gutters in the Municipality.

The Main streets in the business center area were blocked and all shops were closed in respect to the ongoing exercise. Participants were grouped as usual to undertake and monitor the exercise as working tools and equipment were shared among them.

Ash Foam Ltd came in support with its crew and sponsored the exercise with T-shirts and gloves.

A chunk of filth were filled in gutters and drains in front of the taxi rank exit point and the Y&K stores opposite Oteng house as well as drains around the central market. Some traders claimed that, the just recent rainfalls that fell caused the gutters to choke again with filth.

An interview with a group of taxi drivers from the main taxi rank stated that, the Assembly is doing well in tackling sanitation issues in the Municipality but it has neglected their issue and concerns on their damaged gutter guard at their exit point. The added that, they have written to the Assembly a number of times but their issues and concerns have not been met.

Some shop owners also aired their views saying that they have not yet seen the Assembly take action on those who do not participate or exempt themselves from the monthly cleanup exercise and also equipment and tools used during the exercise are in adequate hence, plead on the sanitation department to provide enough equipment for the exercise

The Nigerian student association of the All Nations University and the Deaf and Dump group also took part in the exercise stating that they are overwhelmed over the actions the Assembly has taken against filth in the Municipality.

The MCE and his entourage later supervised the degree of work done by the various bodies and their leaders. He further said that, He has seen a higher degree of improvement on issues concerning sanitation in the Municipality ever since this exercise started. He emphasized that this exercise will continue till the end of his tenure.

He went on to advice the assembly on reaching and notifying the public well on such events due to poor attendance of citizenry. He thanked all who participated in the cleanup exercise and advised all and Sunday should always try and keep the attitude of coming together to help clean and make the Municipality a clean place for all our daily activities. He said cleanliness is next to Godliness.
